It turns out that Microsoft keeps this major improvement for Windows 9

Windows 8.1 Update 1 is set to make its public debut in approximately two months, but as more time passes by, it turns out that it’s going to be only a small pack of improvements aimed at the operating system’s performance and reliability.

Even though it was initially said that it could make a comeback in Windows 8.1 Update 1, the Start Menu is very unlikely to show up so soon and, just like Microsoft watcher Mary Jo Foley reports via some unnamed insiders, chances are that Redmond keeps it for the launch of Windows 9 or for another Windows 8.1 update.

At this point, it’s not yet clear whether Microsoft is planning to launch another update for Windows 8.1 or jump straight to Windows 9, but more details are likely to be unveiled in April at BUILD.

Windows 9, on the other hand, is projected to be launched in approximately one year, with work on this new OS version to start in only two months.
