Statistics show that Windows 7 continues to be the leading OS in the world

Just like the figures provided by Net Applications earlier today, statistics offered by StatCounter, another market researcher that keeps an eye on operating system usage, indicate that Windows 7 is currently the top choice worldwide for those still using a desktop.

This time, however, Windows 7 is said to have a market share of 55.33 percent, followed by Windows XP with 15.15 percent.

Surprisingly, Mac OS X is third in StatCounter’s figures with a market share of 8.59 percent, while both Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 are next with 7.51 and 7.45 percent, respectively.

In case you’re running Linux, the open-source platform is way behind Windows and Mac OS X, as StatCounter says that only 1.34 percent of the desktop computers out there are powered by this OS.

Although Microsoft is spending a fortune on Windows 8 and 8.1 marketing, it’s Windows 7 the one that’s having more customer appeal, as it managed to increase its market share every month in 2014.

What’s more, since Windows XP reached end of support, more people have moved to Windows 7 than to Windows 8, most likely thanks to the familiar interface, which also includes a Start menu, that’s available in this OS version, but removed in Windows 8.
