Even though Steve Ballmer was heavily criticized for Windows 8’s poor early sales performance, he is the right man to head Microsoft, nearly half of the company’s employees believe.

The latest figures released by Glassdoor and published by the Business Journal reveal that Ballmer’s employee approval rating has increased from 35 percent in 2011 to a record 52 percent last year. The rating, however, has fallen to 48 percent in January 2013.

As for the company Ballmer is in charge of, the overall rating increased from 3.4 out of 5 to 3.7 in 2012. Another drop was recorded this month to 3.5 points.

While Bill Gates still considers that Steve Ballmer is the best CEO for Microsoft at this point, many users blame him for Windows 8 and the Surface RT tablet.

What’s more, Steven Sinofsky, the man in charge with the Windows division and Windows 8, decided to leave the company in November after what seemed to be a growing tension between him and Ballmer.
