Microsoft is skipping this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, but Steve Ballmer, the always-excited CEO of the Redmond-based technology giant, couldn’t stay away from the Sin City.

Ballmer appeared out of nowhere at CES 2013, just when Qualcomm’s CEO Paul Jacobs was talking about Windows 8.

Of course, Steve Ballmer didn’t miss the occasion to praise Windows 8, Windows Phone and Surface RT, saying several times that Microsoft’s first tablet in history is a great product. “Windows RT devices are the new additions to the family,” he added with a big smile on his face.

Microsoft isn’t exhibiting at CES 2013 and even though the company hasn’t provided an official reason for this decision, some critics claim that it’s all because the poor performance of Windows 8 and the Surface RT.
