Microsoft is expected to provide more information on Windows 8 sales during today’s earnings conference call, but analysts are already talking about a disappointing performance of the company’s flagship operating system.

Morgan Stanley analyst Keith Weiss told MarketWatch that Windows 8’s early uptake was indeed very slow, so the tech giant should now try to change its strategy to boost sales and thus increase stock price.

Basically, Weiss says that it all comes down to three different “catalysts” that could help the company boost adoption of its new products, including a so-called exhaustion of negativity, enhanced server and business tools, and continued investments in cloud computing.

“After a lackluster Window 8 launch, the gap between sentiment and fundamentals looks as wide as ever. [It’s] an attractive risk [and] reward setup, if Microsoft can post some wins,” Weiss was quoted as saying.
