Microsoft still struggles to convince users to dump Windows XP

Windows XP continues to be the second top operating system worldwide, according to a new set of statistics provided for the month of January 2014, but here’s something which confirms that XP won’t die anytime soon.

This chart generated by Net Applications for the past 12 months clearly indicates that Windows XP’s market share has slightly declined despite Microsoft’s intense efforts to move users to Windows 8 or 8.1.

XP dropped from 38.73 percent in March 2013 to 37.19 percent in July 2013 and then to 31.22 percent in November the same year. The drop continued in December to 28,98 percent, but paradoxically, Windows XP gained some ground last month to increase its share to 29.23 percent.

Of course, Microsoft warns that sticking to Windows XP after April 8, the end of support date when the company would stop providing updates and security patches, is extremely risky, so the company wants users to consider their options as soon as possible.
