They say that Windows doesn't provide too many customization options and users have no alternative than to stick to the same boring design of the desktop that remained more or less unchanged as new versions of the operating system came out.

But with the right apps and a lot of imagination, you can make your Windows desktop look absolutely astonishing without spending too much for this at all.

The screenshot you see here was brought to our attention by the guys over at Lifehacker who came across the creation of Flickr user Yusuf who most likely wanted his desktop to set itself apart from the other ones out there.

As you can see for yourselves in the screenshot, the desktop, which appears to be fully prepared for the cold season, doesn't look at all as the old Windows one and comes with a design that would impress many designers out there. Productivity is not an important aspect, if you planned to mention anything about, as it's all about the way the desktop looks after heavy customization.

It's all possible thanks to Rainmeter, an awesome wallpaper, special skins and several modifications here and there, but you can find everything you need in the box after the jump.

And by the way, the version of Windows you are currently running doesn't really matter. Because yes, Windows XP can also look that good!
