We're only a few days away from the public launch of Windows 8.1 Preview and all eyes are on the Store to see that eagerly-awaited notification that lets everyone download the new release.

It turns out that the software maker is now using Microsoft Connect to invite select developers to test drive Windows 8.1 Preview on June 26, the same day when the update is set to make its debut at the BUILD conference in San Francisco.

This could indeed sound a bit awkward given the fact that Windows 8.1 Preview will be available for all users who have already made the move to Windows 8, as the update will be displayed in the Store as a free download.

And still, it's no surprise that so many rumors reach the web lately since we're so close to the public debut of the preview version, but expect more official details in just a few days.
