VLC 2.0.6 has been available for download for some time from the developer, although it hadn’t been released officially because the build was not ready for all platforms.

Today, the developer officially announced that VLC 2.0.6, code-named “Twoflower” is now ready for all supported operating systems.

The new release introduces support for Matroska v4 files and uses a new compiler on Windows; you can find more details on this page.

Repairs are also included in this revision, some of them touching on support for MKV, OGG, AVI and WMV files as well as for HTTPS and subtitles.

On the same note, the developer did away with the problems affecting GPU decoding with Intel HD 2000/3000 cards (on Windows).
