VLC for Windows 8 is still in the works right now, but VideoLAN has just released a brand new version of the media player that allows users to try out some of the newest features before it reaches the final build.

VLC Media Player 2.1.0 Pre2 packs several changes from the previous testing version, including updates for the built-in components, as well as revised codecs, encoders, and filters.

At the same time, it also comes to repair some of the bugs found in the app, so expect a slight performance improvement to be noticed after deploying the update.

The 2.1.0 Pre2 iteration is addressed not only to Windows users, but also to Linux and Mac OS X platforms, so make sure you deploy the update if you’re still running the first pre-release build.
