VLC for Windows 8.1 should have been launched more than a year ago, but work on the modern port of the famous multimedia player is still in the works right now.

VIdeoLAN submitted the project to the Windows Store for approval several times until now, but every time the development team found a bug that needed more time to be fixed, so the official launch was delayed even more.

Now it turns out that VLC for Windows 8.1 is again ready to launch, as the application has been submitted to the store and should be available for download in the coming days.

VLC for Windows 8.1 will be initially available on x86 and x64 computers, while Windows RT devices, such as Microsoft’s very own Surface RT, should get it soon after that.

Of course, the application is very likely to come with most of the features available on the desktop, but also with a touch-optimized interface that would allow users to install it on touch-capable devices, such as tablets running Windows 8.1.

We’re still waiting for an official announcement on VLC for Windows 8.1, but the application is very likely to reach the store in just a few days, so we’re keeping an eye on the store and we’ll report to you whenever the program becomes available.
