The famous VLC multimedia player is undoubtedly one of the highly-anticipated Windows 8 apps, especially after the developers behind the project have managed to raise the necessary funds for porting the tool.

While the official Metro version of VLC was expected to be released in the first few months of 2013, one of the devs working on the app said in a short tweet that the project was still moving forward, so an official release could be announced in just a few weeks.

“VLC for Windows 8 Modern UI is still moving forward. 48 forbidden APIs to replace and we'll be ready to put it on the Windows Store,” Rafael Carre explained.

In addition to a Metro version of VLC that would work on x86 and x64 builds of the new operating system, VideoLAN is also working on a Windows RT port that could be unveiled later this year.
