While VLC for Windows 8 is still under development, plenty of apps have landed on Microsoft’s new operating system to provide its adopters with some of the features available in this particular media player.

Video Player for VLC, for example, is a simple Windows 8 Metro app that lets you connect to a VLC server and stream videos without closing the Modern UI.

“This is a companion app for the popular VLC Media Player. It allows you to browse the content of your VLC server and stream videos. You need a working VLC installation with remote access enabled,” the app description reads.

The program isn’t offered with a freeware license, but a trial version is already available for download for all those who wish to give it a try before buying the full package.
