A new update is now available for VirtualBox. Build 4.2.8 of the product is a maintenance release designed to improve overall functionality and stability.

The developer did away with several crash bugs, one of them taking its toll on the Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) and occurred with huge amount of guest RAM on VT-x hosts.

Online merging of snapshots should work again, so users no longer need to power off the VM to complete the operation. Also, no data corruption should occur after resizing a VDI image and the issue with incompatibility of VHD differencing images with Hyper-V.

Among the improvements available in this release, there is reduced time for merging snapshots and you are allowed to change the VRDE (VirtualBox remote desktop extension) settings for saved virtual machines.
