Microsoft will hold a new press conference today to discuss its tablet plans but also to introduce at least one new Surface model supposed to continue its transition to a devices and services firm.

Since it's an invitation-only event in New York, Microsoft has also decided to offer a live webcast, which means that everyone can watch the show starting at 8 a.m. PDT from New York City.

Microsoft has remained completely tight-lipped on the things that we could see at the show, but pundits indicated that the company could introduce the new Surface Mini, an 8-inch tablet that could be marketed as a note-taking device designed to compete against the iPad mini and Nexus 7.

At the same time, there are some signs that Microsoft could debut a 12-inch tablet, possibly called Surface Pro 3, specifically developed for power and corporate users. The Surface Pro 3 is expected to come with Intel processors, with the top of the range to boast an i7 chip and 512 GB of storage.

Both tablets will come with Windows 8.1, but while the Surface Pro 3 is expected to run the full version of the OS, the Mini version is very likely to stick to the RT version specifically created for ARM devices.
