There’s a new Winamp in town, although Nullsoft has not modified the version number on their main page just yet. Version 5.622 of the player brings mainly fixes regarding various MP3 and MP4 audio formats, and no new features are listed among the changes.

It now supports TXXX (Band) tag as an alternative to ID3v2 frame for album art in the case of MP3 audio.

Fixes related to this format include the crash occurring when pressing Alt+3 for the currently playing song with APEv2 tag. Additionally, some trouble with deleting some ID3v2 frames when updating tags has been mended.

The latest release now works with updated encoders, as the Fraunhofer AAC Encoder included in the free package is at version 3.2.3, while Lame encoder used is 3.99.

The Jump to File Extra (JTFE) plug-in, present in the free distribution since Winamp 5.02, has also been updated, to version 1.2.4
