Microsoft confirms that the leaked build is completely clean

Windows 10 build 9901 got leaked a few days ago, and lots of users rushed to give it a try even though Microsoft itself warned on several occasions that sticking to official builds was the best option for everyone.

And now, some are complaining that a number of anti-virus solutions are flagging the leaked build as “malware,” which would, of course, raise some questions in case this ISO comes from Microsoft.

As you can see for yourselves in the scan results of the C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Wpc.dll file included in build 9901, some anti-virus products really mark it as infected, so it’s no surprise that some have directly asked Microsoft’s reps about this.

Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, said in a very short tweet that it was all just a false positive and there was no need to worry that build 9901 could be infected with malware. ‘But why do we get this false positive?’ some could wonder.

There’s no answer to this question at this point, but anti-virus providers will most likely update their software in the coming days to remove this warning and avoid flagging Windows 10 build 9901 as infected.

In the meantime, keep in mind that Microsoft doesn’t recommend the installation of leaked builds, so sticking to official builds could indeed be the best choice this time.
