Windows 7 is often considered to be a much better alternative than Windows 8, especially for those who do not have the time to explore new Windows features and discover how to perform simple tasks in the Metro UI.

Now a report published by myce.com and pointing to figures collected from torrent sites reveals that even with a free license, Windows 7 is still more popular than its successor.

While Windows Vista is missing from the top because nobody seems to be trying to download a pirated copy of this OS these days, Windows 7 leads the charts with 4916 download links, followed by Windows 8.1 with 3865 links.

Windows XP remains surprisingly popular, as it’s still seeded 2127 times, which does nothing more than to confirm that Microsoft will most likely fail in its mission to discontinue the aging operating system in April this year.
