Soon after the launch of Windows 8.1, users started reporting an issue when installing the operating system from the Store that basically ruined their chances for the new software to run on their computers.

Microsoft says that the error code 0xC1900101 – 0x40017 is usually returned whenever Windows 8.1 has to deal with incompatible drivers, so the company recommends everyone to make sure that all the latest drivers are installed on their systems.

In addition, the company says that particular attention needs to be paid to Nvidia GeForce graphics cards. And still, a fix is on its way, Microsoft explained, to make it easier for all users who want to install the new Windows 8.1.

“We are still investigating the issue to determine what additional drivers are causing this error. We’d like to thank everyone who sent us their log files to help us in this effort. We have collected enough sample files to work with, and are busy analyzing the logs at this time. We’ll post a fix or solution as soon as they are confirmed,” the company says.
