Microsoft is reportedly working on new features for its next Windows release

A new screenshot that reached the web a couple of hours ago indicates that Microsoft is working on an “alarm app” for Windows 8.1 / Blue, but its purpose is pretty unclear for the time being.

As you can see for yourselves in this leaked screenshot, the next Windows iteration is very likely to pack what are being called “apps to show alarms on the lock screen.”

While the concept is quite vague at this point, it may actually point to Metro apps that could be displayed on the lock screen as alarms or with the help of a new notification system included in Windows 8.1

The feature doesn’t seem to work in Windows 8.1 / Blue build 9385, so more details are very likely to surface in the next couple of weeks, as we get closer to the public debut of the first Blue beta due in June.
