The Windows 8.1 update is also causing trouble to Surface Pro owners, as the new operating system reportedly disables the stylus pen after deployment.

Several users have confirmed on Microsoft’s Community forums that the pen is not recognized at all after installing Windows 8.1, and no workaround is available at this point.

A Microsoft engineer has suggest that users should power off the Surface Pro, hold the Volume Up and the Power button for 10 seconds, wait for a few more seconds and then power on the device.

In case that doesn’t solve the issue and make the tablet recognize the pen, consumers should then try to install the latest Wacom drivers to make sure that the pen software is fully compatible with the new Windows 8.1 operating system.
