As I told you a few weeks ago, Microsoft is working on fingerprint support for Windows 8.1, but according to a new report, the feature would be greatly enhanced with plenty of options.

The Verge writes that Windows 8.1’s fingerpint reader support will come with options to lock down some locally-stored folders and applications installed on a specific device.

In addition, it appears that the company is also planning to allow users to lock app buying from the Store using the same fingerprint support, thus trying to add a new layer of security to Windows 8.1 computers.

Microsoft believes that this new feature has what it takes to encourage PC makers to develop more devices featuring fingerprint readers, especially after the launch of Windows 8.1.

"You'll begin to see these be more pervasively available just to make it that much easier to log in to Windows," Microsoft's Stephen Rose was quoted as saying.
