Microsoft yesterday launched the new Windows 8.1 Preview and together with it, the company also announced some new apps that would be soon available in the Store.

Even though Facebook initially said that it had no intention to develop a Metro client for Windows 8, it turns out that the social network will actually launch such an application in the coming weeks, but no other specifics have been provided.

“The preview we are releasing today is an important step for partners around the world that are building the next generation of Windows devices and apps,” Windows boss Julie Larson-Green explained during the opening keynote of BUILD 2013.

At this point, there are several unofficial Facebook clients in the Store, most of which work on both Windows 8 and Windows RT and come with a touch-optimized GUI specifically aimed at tablet users.
