A number of users are still unable to deploy Windows 8.1

Microsoft introduced Windows 8.1 in October 2013, so one would think that the company had enough time to fix most of the problems experienced with the OS update in the 12 months since its launch.

Unfortunately for many users out there, Windows 8.1 still fails to install on a number of computers, and it’s no surprise that the majority of those affected by the issue slam Microsoft and call for the company to stop ignoring their issues with the OS update.

In most of the cases, Windows 8.1 installation fails with an error displaying the following message: “Couldn't update to Windows 8.1 - 0xC1900101 - 0x40017,” and up until now, no workaround appears to solve the problem for everyone.

What’s more shocking, however, is that during this whole time Microsoft hasn’t actually provided any fix for users in trouble when trying to install Windows 8.1 on their Windows 8 PCs, so their only chance is to either call support or try to resolve the issues on their own.

If you’re having the same problems, try running “sfc /scannow” on your PC, check for Windows Updates, run Disk Cleanup, delete all temporary files, and uninstall anti-virus solutions. Try to install Windows 8.1 once again and see if it works this time.

Microsoft is still pretty much tight-lipped on this problem, so we’ve reached out to the company to see if any official workaround is available for users trying to fix this.
