They say that Windows 8.1 is a significantly improved version of Windows 8 and the majority of users actually migrate to this new release, but new charts prove otherwise.

Statistics provided by market researcher StatCounter for the first three weeks of December 2013 indicate that Windows 8.1 is still behind Windows Vista, with a market share of 1.93 percent versus 4.39 percent.

Windows 7 continues to lead the charts with 54.97 percent, which means that it’s still powering one in two desktop computers across the world. Windows XP, the soon-to-be-retired operating system, is the runner-up with a market share of 19.87 percent, followed by Windows 8 with 8.05 percent.

In the meantime, Microsoft is said to be already working on a new Windows version that would bring back the Start Menu, as well as several new options, such as the possibility to run Modern apps on the desktop in their very own windows.
