Windows 8.1 will be released in just a few months and, in addition to plenty of improvements for the Windows platform, it’s also expected to help the hardware industry get back on its feet.

A report by Digitimes and citing the famous “Taiwan-based supply chain makers” reveals that many vendors are already working on Windows 8 tablets to be released in the second half of 2013, most likely equipped with Microsoft’s new Windows 8.1.

As a result, it’s projected that Windows 8.1 will be installed on 5 to 8 percent of the tablets shipped globally in 2013, which basically means that 20 million units could hit the market in just a few months.

As you probably heard, Microsoft is also trying to make Windows 8 devices a bit more affordable by cutting the price of the operating system, thus allowing manufacturers to sell their units at lower prices.
