The number of Metro tools available for download is continuously growing

The lack of Metro apps has often been considered one of the main reasons why Windows 8 failed to excite, so Microsoft keeps trying to attract more developers to its modern operating system.

According to MetroStore Scanner, an unofficial service that keeps track of the apps published in the Store, there are 111,000 tools now available for download, most of which come with a freeware license.

Even though the company promised to pay much more attention to app quality than to the overall number, the amount of spam available in the Store is shockingly high, with lots of useless entries published every day.

The good news, however, is that several large companies have already confirmed the development of Windows 8 apps, including social networking service Facebook whose tool should see daylight by year end.
