Microsoft continues to bet big on Metro apps, especially because the Windows 8.1 update is going to focus even more on the touch support the company is offering to users.

As a result, the number of apps available in the Store has reached 85,000, according to MetroStore Scanner, an unofficial service that tracks Microsoft’s public Store listings.

While no details on the included categories are available for the time being, the games section probably remains the largest, especially because developers continue to port their apps to Windows 8.

The Windows Store is also going to get a major redesign in Windows 8.1, as Microsoft is trying to make it a bit more user-friendly and to allow users to find the apps they are looking for faster. More details on the new Windows Store are available here.
