Although unofficial reports have previously suggested that Microsoft’s Windows Store currently holds only approximately 20,000 apps, some of them have already surpassed the one million downloads mark.

While Ballmer hasn’t mentioned the name of the Windows Store programs that have reached this milestone, he did mention that several apps had already recorded one million downloads.

“We know for sure that people get it, and like it,” Ballmer said about Windows 8. “Consumers are using the features and downloading new applications. In fact, several apps have reached already 1 million downloads,” he continued.

With 20,000 apps alive and kicking, Microsoft’s Windows Store has finally managed to overtake Apple’s Mac App Store which, according to unofficial sources, has approximately 13,000 apps available for its users.

Microsoft, on the other hand, expects to see the number of Windows Store apps skyrocketing to 100,000 by February 2013.
