New figures provided by market researcher StatCounter for this month confirm that Windows 8 is slowly increasing its market share, but the new OS version still lags behind Vista.

April 2013 stats reveal a Windows 8 share of 4.74 percent, while Windows 7 continues to top the rankings with a record 53.99 percent.

Windows XP, on the other hand, keeps its second spot with 21.57 percent, while Windows Vista is still installed on 6.03 percent of computers worldwide.

Six months have passed since Microsoft officially introduced Windows 8, but no sales figures are available for the time being.

The Softies previously revealed that they sold 60 million Windows 8 copies in two months after launch, but no other statistics have been provided since then.

As far as analysts are concerned, the new OS fails to excite, with all eyes now on the windows 8.1 upgrade expected to hit the shelves sometime this summer.
