Analysts believe that Windows 8 is not the main reason of the collapse

Analyst firm Gartner announced today that global PC shipments in the second quarter of 2013 declined 10.9 percent and some people rushed to criticize Microsoft’s new Windows 8.

Mikako Kitagawa, principal analyst at Gartner, claims that Windows 8 should not be blamed for the collapse of the PC industry, explaining that the decline has actually started way before the new operating system hit the market.

“While Windows 8 has been blamed by some as the reason for the PC market’s decline, we believe this is unfounded as it does not explain the sustained decline in PC shipments, nor does it explain Apple’s market performance,” Kitagawa noted.

Windows 8 is currently installed on approximately 5 percent of computers worldwide, but Microsoft expects the market share to grow in the coming months as a result of the public launch of the 8.1 OS update.
