The number of apps in the store is continuously growing

If you’re on a Windows 8 already, you most likely know that Microsoft is making really big efforts to convince more developers to port their apps to this particular OS version, offering them a number of tools and services to make it easier to do this.

The company’s efforts are somewhat paying off already, as the number of apps in the store is really growing up at a fast pace and today a new milestone has been reached.

Windows 8 can now choose from up to 170,000 apps to download from the store, most of which are available with a freeware license and work on both desktops and tablets.

Of course, the biggest problem right now is the amount of spam that’s being offered to Windows 8 users, as many of the apps that you might come across in the store are nothing more than fake entries that are actually trying to capitalize on the popularity of other software solutions and steal people’s money.

Microsoft has promised us in a statement that it would address the problem of spam apps, but at this point, many of the fake entries that we’ve reported are still there.

It remains to be seen how many apps are actually published in the store if Microsoft removes all these malicious items listed for download for Windows 8 users.
