The number of Windows 8 apps continues to grow bigger

The newly released Windows Store has finally passed the 40,000 apps milestone, even though Microsoft had expected to see more than 100,000 tools available by February 1.

According to MetroStore Scanner, an unofficial service that tracks the number of apps submitted to the Store, there are more than 41,000 programs available right now to Windows 8 adopters.

Keep in mind that this is the number of apps available worldwide, so local stores may actually provide access to fewer solutions.

Microsoft is yet to release some official statistics concerning the Windows Store, but some other third-party reports indicated that more than 80 percent of the apps were available with a freeware license.

Of course, it all comes down to the quality of these apps, as many developers have actually blasted Microsoft’s strategy to approve “ugly” and “useless” tools.
