CEO Steve Ballmer has admitted in an internal meeting that Windows 8 isn't selling well enough and an analyst now comes to state the obvious one more time.

Research firm Trefis says in a note that Windows 8 is still struggling to excite, especially in the tablet market, even though more than 6 months have passed since it reached the market.

"Since the competitive tablet industry has already established products such as Apple's iPad and Google's Android tablets, Windows 8 faces strong headwinds as it tries to increase market penetration," the firm said according to The Economic Times.

At this point, Windows 8 is installed on approximately 5 percent of computers worldwide, a market share that, according to Net Applications, makes it the third most popular OS in the world, after Windows 7 and XP.
