Windows 9 will launch in early 2015 and everyone expects it to come with lots of changes which would in the end convince more users to install it on their devices.

It’s no surprise that Windows 9’s launch, just like the debut of every other Windows version, is expected to boost new PC sales, but as far as market analyst firm IDC is concerned, the upcoming product is going to have a very difficult mission.

Windows 9 indeed might have what it takes to convince more buyers to get new PCs running a modern operating system, but it’s still a matter of how many users actually need the features that are part of these new products.

“PC replacement cycles have expanded as users have alternative computing platforms and places to spend money. The launch of Windows 9 Threshold in 2015 could potentially boost demand, although it will be hard to gauge the actual impact until the advantages to consumers and commercial users in functionality and integration with specific devices is more apparent,” Loren Loverde, Vice President, Worldwide PC Trackers, said.

“For the moment, we continue to see PC demand coming primarily from replacements with overall shipments declining slightly through the end of the forecast.”

Windows 9 is expected to come with lots of new features, including a modern Start menu, options to run Metro apps on the desktop, a PC version of Cortana, multiple desktops, and a completely-revamped Modern interface for tablets.
