14 DAY TRIAL // Windows 9 is on the horizon, that’s for sure, and even though Microsoft refuses to talk about this project, we already know that a preview build could be unveiled next month.
Now according to Windows leaker WZor, Windows 9 is scheduled to reach RTM by December 31, which could be a sign that the new operating system might actually see daylight before April 2015.
This, however, contradicts previous reports which indicated that RTM wouldn’t be reached before February 2015, which seems more plausible in case the April 2015 release date is indeed accurate.
Windows 9, on the other hand, will get the very first public preview build in late September or early October, as Microsoft wants to collect feedback from users and see what needs to be improved before launching the final version.
Little is known at this point, but Windows 9 will most likely bring back the Start menu on the desktop, as well as options to run Modern apps outside the Metro UI. The Charms bar could be removed, while multiple desktops, a feature that has been requested for years, might finally make its debut in Windows 9.
Aside from that, word is that Microsoft is also pondering a freeware license for existing Windows users in order to boost adoption of the new OS and get more users off old platforms such as Windows XP.
