Microsoft has finally confirmed that Windows Blue will be released later this year, but the company continues to remain tight-lipped on details such as updates and new features.

However, it’s no secret that Windows Blue would be also used to put the focus on smaller tablets, with Microsoft very likely to be one of the companies to release 8-inch devices running the new operating system.

Tami Reller, Microsoft CFO, said in an interview with The Verge that Windows Blue would perfectly suit smaller devices, including those equipped with 7- and 8-inch displays.

“We’ve made sure from the product to our pricing and offerings we are supporting 7- and 8-inch devices specifically,” Reller explained.

“Blue does a nice job of optimizing for those small screen form factor sizes. Yes, you’ve seen them before, but Blue also does more to support.”

According to some unconfirmed rumors, Microsoft might launch the next-generation Surface tablet in June at the BUILD developer conference, with the refreshed product range to include an 8-inch unit too.
