Microsoft will launch the public preview of Windows 8.1 as soon as next month and in addition to plenty of UI changes, the new OS could also bring more Bing Metro apps.

Citing insiders, Microsoft watcher Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet writes that the Bing division is currently working on some new Metro apps for Windows 8.1, even though no specifics are available on their purpose.

The Alarms and Sound Recorder apps have already been spotted in leaked builds of Windows Blue, but it appears that the company might also prepare some other exciting Metro tools.

Bing will also provide the search capabilities of the Windows Store, as Microsoft is planning to completely revamp the search feature integrated in Windows Blue. In addition, users could be allowed to search the web straight from the Start Screen, obviously using the built-in Bing features.
