Extras + Info shows that some phones are running Denim

Lumia Denim is expected to surface in the near future, but an app update rolled out today for Microsoft’s Lumia series made many believe that the new firmware was already available for their devices.

As WPCentral reports today, a new build of Extras + Info app was officially released this morning, but unexpectedly, it displayed an incorrect version of the firmware running on the target device.

The Extras + Info app is the Windows Phone app that tells you which firmware version your device is currently running, and following today’s update, some phones were said to be powered by Lumia Denim.

This was obviously incorrect, and it appears that closing the app and relaunching it could fix the issue temporarily, and Cyan is again displayed as the running firmware on the affected devices.

Needless to say, downloading and installing Lumia Denim takes much more time than a simple app update does, so most Windows Phone users should actually notice when a new firmware becomes available.

Neither Microsoft nor Nokia has revealed the official launch date of Lumia Denim, but there’s no doubt that updating the Extras + Info app is a hint that we’re getting really close to this moment, mostly because devices need to display the firmware version accurately especially after getting the update.

Previously, we heard that Lumia Denim should start rolling out by the end of October, and if this is true, expect more information on this in the next couple of weeks.
