Windows 8 is still being considered a rather confusing operating system, especially because it no longer comes with a Start button and instead bundles a Start screen, but it appears that it all comes down to demographics.

Peter Renner, professional services director for the En Pointe Microsoft practice, told ChannelProSMB that younger people seem to discover the benefits of Windows 8 much faster, hence less time needed to get used to the operating system.

“We have seen a demographic gap,” Renner was quoted as saying. “Generally companies with younger workforces have been quicker to adopt Windows 8. The tile or button approach is easier to adopt versus people used to having a desktop icon or Start button.”

Microsoft has more or less tried to address this issue in Windows 8.1 by bringing back a Start button, but instead of launching the traditional Start Menu, it only gets users to the new touch-optimized Start screen.
