New Amazon extension now available for Windows insiders

Amazon has recently decided to pull its Windows Phone app, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that the company is planning to give up on Windows 10 entirely.

Amazon has just released a browser extension for Microsoft Edge, which allows users to access the service without having to actually load the page, providing them with quick links to features such as Amazon Music, Your Lists, orders, and Deals.

Furthermore, the Amazon Assistant extension plays the role of a true digital assistant and lets you know whenever information valuable to you is available, such as package shipping details - this is a feature that will be added in a future update, though, and for the moment, the assistant only notifies you of deals and nothing more.

What’s important to know is that the Amazon browser extension is only available for members of the Windows Insider program because it needs support for extensions in Microsoft Edge. For the moment, extensions only work for those who are enrolled in the testing program but are scheduled to go live for everyone on August 2, when Microsoft starts shipping the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

As far as a fully featured Windows 10 app from Amazon is concerned, there’s still no sign of such a thing, as the company prefers to focus on other platforms, including here Android and iOS. This seems to become a trend these days, but fortunately, Amazon at least provides users with a browser extension for Windows users.
