A court in the Czech Republic has passed out an unusual sentence to a software pirate caught uploading copyrighted material on warez forums.

The so-called hero of this story is a young man called Jakub F, who has spent the last years uploading various types of software packages on underground warez forums.

While he thought his actions would go undetected, the watchful eyes of the BSA (Business Software Alliance) eventually landed on his actions, and after a legal complaint was filed in his country, police arrested Jakub for piracy-related crimes.

Jakub was brought to court, and after a short trial, he received a three-year suspended prison sentence, along with the confiscation of his PC equipment.

Unfortunately, the BSA lawyers did not stop here, and brought financial damages claims against Jakub in total of $373,000 / €351,000, as TorrentFreak reports.

The judge did not agree with the way BSA's lawyers calculated the damages, and before he would knock down their claims, BSA and Jakub entered an agreement to cover the damages.

This agreement required Jakub to record a short video (PSA, Public Statement Announcement) in which he would have to document his life as a software pirate.

To be exempted from paying the $373,000 / €351,000 fine, Jakub's video has to reach 200,000 YouTube views.

At the time of writing this article, the video had 125,391 views. After reading the YouTube comments, the video seems to have gone viral on underground piracy forums, and we expect Jakub to reach his target by the end of the day. You can view his video below.
