You should try to disable Cortana, Microsoft says

Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 Mobile build 10549 a few hours ago, and just like expected, there are plenty of insiders who rushed to download and install it, even though it required a full flash to Windows Phone 8.1 before a direct upgrade.

And since it’s a preview build, it also comes with bugs and one of the biggest problems seems to simply ruin battery life on a number of devices.

According to Gabriel Aul, chief of the Windows Insider program, Cortana is the one that might be causing a huge battery drain in build 10549, so in case you have already installed the new version, you should try to disable the personal assistant completely until a fix is provided.

Aul reveals that the Windows developing team is already working on a patch for this, but no timing information has been provided, so it could take either a couple of days or one full week until it arrives.

Obviously, you can’t blame Microsoft for rolling out such buggy builds because that’s the purpose of the Windows Insider program after all, but it’s pretty clear that Windows 10 Mobile isn’t yet ready to become your daily driver.

The operating system is projected to debut in December on existing Windows Phone devices, so Microsoft still has about one month and a half to get the operating system right.
