Apple has just published updated builds of iTunes for Windows and Mac OS X, introducing new features and options that include an all-new iTunes Extras for HD movies.

The Cupertino-based company says that, starting today, users are getting access to more content, including short films, image galleries, and behind the scenes videos, all through iTunes. The firm guarantees that HD content will be added to previously-purchased iTunes movies free of charge as it becomes available.

“iTunes 11.3 includes all-new iTunes Extras for HD movies. iTunes Extras can include behind-the-scenes videos, short films, high-resolution image galleries, director's commentary, scenes, and more. These immersive iTunes Extras can also be enjoyed on Apple TV with Software Update 6.2 now, and will be available on iOS 8 this fall.”

No other features have been added to iTunes, but Apple says that this is just an important step for a wider rollout of iTunes Extras, which also includes an iOS 8 version expected to see daylight sometime this fall.
