Both Japan and Ecuador have been hit by devastating earthquakes, and in order to help victims and those living in these countries make sure that their friends and relatives are safe, Microsoft is offering free Skype calls for the next few days.

In announcements today, Microsoft has revealed that all domestic and international calls to landline and mobiles in Japan and Ecuador will be completely free for the next few days. The offer excludes calls to special, premium service and non-geographical numbers.

“In light of the devastating earthquake that has taken place in Ecuador - and the subsequent impact to the local communications infrastructure - we are making all domestic and international calls to landlines and mobiles in Ecuador free of charge for the next few days. This takes place with immediate effect,” Microsoft has announced.

Redmond hasn’t provided any detailed information on how long this offer will last and has only said that the free calls will be available “for the next few days,” so the promo will most likely come to an end sometime this week. The promo is valid for all versions of Skype, including desktop and mobile devices, not only Windows but also Android and iOS.

It goes without saying that Microsoft deserves all the praises for offering such promos to countries hit by natural disasters, and it’s actually critical for tech giants to show their support when such tragedies happen.
