Despite the fact that all eyes are now on Windows 10 and its debut projected to happen next week, Microsoft is still very focused on its hardware business, so today the company has introduced a new ad for the Surface 3 tablet.

Specifically supposed to entice buyers into getting a Surface 3 in the back-to-school shopping season, the commercial highlights some of the best features of the device aimed at students, including the digital pen, OneNote, and several others that could help make learning and teaching easier.

“Looking for a laptop? Get the most out of your school year with Surface. Record a lecture while taking notes at the same time. Use Surface Pen to write notes with one click to OneNote, then convert that handwriting to text. Or, you can use StaffPad to write music on the fly. Be noteworthy this school year,” Microsoft says in the video description.

The Surface 3 runs Windows 8.1, but just like all the other devices powered by this OS version, it qualifies for the free upgrade to Windows 10 when the new OS becomes available.

Microsoft also plans to ship the Surface 3 with Windows 10 out of the box, but the company hasn’t yet offered any timing details on this. It has, however, mentioned that, on July 29, you can get the Surface 3 from the Microsoft Store and have it upgraded to Windows 10 by professional staff completely free of charge.
