Microsoft has recently released Skype 7.17 for Windows desktop computers, but a change log is yet to be provided, so it’s not yet known whether the company has introduced any new features or it’s all about fixing bugs and improving performance.

Lately, Microsoft no longer provides release information on new versions of its software unless there’s something really worth mentioning, so it’s safe to assume that Skype 7.17 either comes with changes that aren’t quite huge or with bug fixes and optimizations for Windows computers.

Whatever the case, Windows desktop users running Skype should download and install the new version anyway to keep their computers up to date.

Since it runs on the desktop, this version of Skype supports the majority of Windows flavors on the market, including the old XP, which no longer receives patches and updates.

Previously, Microsoft was also offering a touch-optimized version of the application that was specifically available for Windows 8 devices. It was available in the store and could come in handy to those with a tablet running this particular OS, but with the arrival of Windows 10, Microsoft decided to simplify its product lineup and removed this version.

Right now, the desktop version is the one to go to for those who want to chat with friends and contacts, so download Skype to get the new improvements too.
