New OneDrive version now available on iPhones

Microsoft has released an update to the OneDrive app for iOS devices that brings new features for the creation of Office documents right within the app.

Basically, what Microsoft is trying to do is to replicate the behavior of OneDrive in the browser, where users are allowed to create new documents without leaving the cloud-based storage service.

When clicking the new document shortcut in OneDrive, the service automatically fires up the online version of the corresponding document app, such as Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, and thanks to today’s update, the same thing is happening in OneDrive too.

OneDrive version 7.8 for iOS comes with a small + icon in the top right corner, and when tapped, it prompts you to select a type of document that you want to create, as is the case with OneDrive in browsers. When choosing any of the three, OneDrive launches the corresponding app on your iPhone, so you must be running Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps on the device.

This new feature should make it possible to work with your documents in the cloud more easily than before and certainly comes in handy since Office is quite a popular suite of tools on the iPhone.

In addition, this new version also includes “plenty of bug fixes,” as Microsoft itself explains in the release notes, as well as minor tweaks that should contribute to otherwise improved performance.
