Microsoft obviously wants to be a pioneer for browser extensions for Microsoft Edge, a feature that will become available for all users in the summer with the Anniversary Update, so the company is already working on several such add-ons.

And according to reports, one extension coming for Microsoft Edge users will provide instant access to the Office Online productivity suite that Redmond is offering free of charge to its users.

Screenshots showing the extension in action reveal that Microsoft is working on this extension behind closed doors, and it could release it to insiders anytime soon. Only users running Windows 10 preview builds will get to try it at first, but everyone should be able to install the extension when the Anniversary Update launches in July.

The extension will give Microsoft Edge users the possibility of creating a new document in Word Online, Excel Online, PowerPoint Online, OneNote Online, and Sway instantly, without having to load the main website. Options to quickly open a document from OneDrive or from a PC where no Office suite is installed will also be offered.

The extension will be published in the store when it’s ready, and users of the latest Windows 10 builds can download and install it in Edge browser. The latest version of the OS is Windows 10 build 14352, and it also comes with several improvements to the new default browser.
