The second-generation Band can be synced with Health

Microsoft Health is the one destination for Band users and now that the second-generation model has arrived, the company updated the application support and made it possible for buyers to synchronize their devices with phones and tablets.

An update released today brings support for the new Band 2 and because the new device also includes a barometer sensor, the app includes elevation tracking too, providing you with more information collected by the sensor.

At the same time, it also comes with an app rebranding, as it ditched the purple in favor of a more neutral shade of blue, as Microsoft itself explains, so you might notice some visual differences, too, after installing the new version.

Other changes that are part of this version include in-app UV monitoring, new features for promoting healthy sleep cycles and redesigned navigation, as all menu items are now available via the hamburger menu. Microsoft has brought the hamburger menu in several of its new apps, so it just makes sense to see it debut in the Health app too.

In case you're one of those who already pre-ordered a Band 2, make sure you update the app because otherwise, you won't be able to synchronize the device with your phone. The device will ship on October 30 and costs $249 in the United States, with pricing around the world to vary by taxes.
